Most of what LHOPS does is built on small, regular support from the local community. Vouchers, hampers, help with school essentials. All of it funded by people giving what they can, when they can.
But some people want to do something more lasting. A gift in your will is one of the simplest ways to make sure this support carries on, long after today's trustees have stepped away.
Why leave a gift to LHOPS
A gift in your will helps make sure LHOPS is still here for local children long after today's trustees have stepped away. It means hampers, vouchers and school support can keep going, whatever a particular year brings.
It also costs you nothing now. The gift only takes effect once your estate is settled, so it has no impact on your day-to-day finances.
You don't need to be wealthy
There's a myth that legacy gifts are only for people with large estates. They're not.
A gift of any size can fund hampers, vouchers or school support for a local family. Because it comes at the end of your lifetime, it has no effect on your finances now.
How it works
Including LHOPS in your will is usually done through your solicitor, either as:
- a fixed amount, or
- a percentage of your estate
If you already have a will, it can normally be updated with a short amendment, called a codicil. We've included suggested wording for your solicitor further down this page.
